We lived in Knoxville for about three years, and I kind of liked Knoxville, but my wife, who sings on the record, she wanted to be closer to a metropolis. Burritos and records and whatnot, you know? So we split the difference and moved to Murfreesboro, so she’s near Nashville and I still have peace and quiet. I can’t really flourish creatively in any kind of city.
Without trying to sound too pretentious, I just follow the muse. I just kind of catch the wave, as it were. All the great artists that I respect have always done that. Neil Young is the obvious example, like, “Oh, the country records are selling well? Here’s Trans.”

l2 adena. You’ve said that you moved to Tennessee in part to get away from music. What led to that decision?
I love country music, but at the same time I’m easily distracted. Even before we make a record, I try to not listen to much music, which, as you might imagine, is much more difficult than you would think. Welcome to buy lineage 2 adena. Art obviously doesn’t exist in a vacuum, but I try to get as close to a vacuum as I can. I’m already reverential enough without taking cues from specific records or shows that I might attend.
I can’t keep repeating myself. There are always going to be people who think my best work was done on a Radio Shack microphone eight years ago, and that’s fine. But I just have to keep moving on
