The awards keep getting bigger and better each year with a high quality field of talent up for awards in 2016.

Following on from their full house performance the night before, Murphy’s Pigs took home four separate categories, Celtic Album of the Year, Celtic Group of the Year, Celtic Song of the Year and the big one Celtic Artist of the Year.

Awards coordinator Julie Clement said Murphy’s Pigs continue to grow their popularity with regular touring and deserved their success on the night.

“We all joked that at least John Graham from Murphy’s Pigs could not win Female Artist Award,” she said.

“Joking aside, taking out four awards is pretty amazing.”

“They are clearly worthy winners as the judging process is blind and these results come from four different judges.”

Popular former Glen Innes entertainer Darren Coggan took out the award for Celtic Male Artist of the Year and Sarah Lynn took out Celtic Female Artist of the Year.

Steve Passfield won the Album Producer of the Year and International Artist of the Year went to Clan Celtica.

New Celtic Talent of the Year was won by Kathryn Jones and Celtic Instrumental of the Year was awarded to Carmel Newman for ‘The Three Little Jigs’.

Mrs Clement said this year’s Official Celtic Awards night was a success and has a growing fan base.

“This year’s awards are really wonderful as there were a number of people attending for the first time,” she said.

“We welcomed the Australian Celtic Dance Championships to the line-up of presentations this year and Peter Alexander was also inducted to the Celtic Roll of Honour.

“Next year’s 25th anniversary of the festival will see the awards get bigger again and we are already planning a few surprises for 2017.”
