A police car has been caught making what has been labelled a dangerous U-turn near Tomingley by a dash camera owner.
The police car was captured making a traffic-stopping U-turn on the Newell Highway chasing after a speeding sedan.
The dash camera owner, known only as ‘Ian’, submitted the video to Facebook page “Dash Cam Owners Australia” and it was published over the weekend.
The video caption reads: “Thursday, 24/4/16. The gold station wagon going northbound was overtaking several trucks and forced the police wagon off the Newell Highway south of Tomingely (sic), and the police driver, did not look in mirrors, no indication, no bells and whistles”.
The video has since gone viral with over 679,235 views, 1800 comments and almost 9000 shares on Facebook at time of print.
PLEASE NOTE THERE IS EXPLICIT LANGUAGE IN THE VIDEO
Police media has since issued a statement saying it is aware of the incident. “Police are aware of the footage and encourage those who witnessed the incident, particularly the driver of the gold vehicle, to come forward and assist with police inquiries,” a spokeswoman for police media said.
Some Facebook commentators however are outraged by the alleged dangerous driving by the unidentified police officer and commend the dash cam owner.
“Good driving by the cam driver, seems that he took the edge off his speed when approaching the pulled-over car then was able to pull up without any issue when the unexpected happened,” Facebook user Adam Biviano said.
“No losing it then a great save, just good driving to begin with. Dumbest driving award goes to the paddy wagon driver who made every effort to become a former police officer.”
Others thought the ‘dangerous’ U-turn could have been simply avoided.
“This would have been avoided if the cop did the right thing and there (sic) lights on. As soon as they intended to pull that car over the light should have gone on. Everyone would have slowed down for them,” Facebook user Neil Macfarland said.
The commentators were pleased no one was injured in the incident.
