After a long weekend away from the office, enjoying the fruits of the Barossa Valley with my family, I returned to the office refreshed and recharged. Over the last few days I have reflected on the changing landscape that is the NSW Police Force. I recall joining “The Job”as a fresh-faced young Greek boy. I was very much not the norm, and to be honest, treated as a bit of an outsider. However things have changed greatly for our organisation with it now being a culturally and linguistically diverse workplace. I guess things have changed with me too, losing some of my boyish good looks over the years!! Just have a look at the names of some senior members of the NSW Police Force for examples of diversity and the acceptance of different cultural backgrounds in this workplace. We are also very accepting of all the different cultures that we engage with through all our duties as police, and I feel the police do so much to gain strong relationships and networks and break down any barriers that we face with our local culturally diverse communities. There are so many benefits in maintaining our strong relationships with all members of our community.
As per previous articles, I once again implore that we all take care on our roads. Once again we have had tragedies on our roads, one of the latest involving a young man who appears to have been on his phone when the car he was driving slammed into the back of a slow moving truck. A moment of distraction appears to have caused his death. A totally avoidable tragedy. I have directed our local police to spend extra time targeting road trauma over the next few months, so expect to see more police out and about on our roads. So please take care and if you do speed, or use your phone whilst driving, expect to be caught.
Until next week…
