At the Junior Classic presentations, back from left – Wayne, Blake and Jade Parker; front – Kim Horan (Central West Glass), Julie Parker, Kasey Fay-Rice (girls winner) and Mitchell Bourne (boys winner). The Telescope Tyres and Batteries Parkes Junior Golf Classic was played on the Anzac Day long weekend with 30 competitors vying for a multitude of trophies.
The classic saw players from Sydney, Bourke, Mudgee, Dubbo, Bathurst, Young, Orange and Forbes up against the Parkes Juniors for top honours.
Winner of the David Coulston Memorial Trophy for the best scratch score was Mitchell Bourne (Dubbo) who defeated runner-up Cameron McMillan (Forbes).
Mitchell won a sudden death playoff with a birdie on the first hole.
He thanked the organisers and sponsors for a great day.
Kasey Fay-Rice (Parkes) won the James (George) Parker Memorial trophy for the best handicap score from all of the players with a great 65 nett.
Kasey received the trophy from the Parker family.
She also took out the 18 hole girls event, followed by Casey Thompson (Bathurst).
In the nett results, Jake Mackin (Duntryleague) defeated Lachlan Buesnell (Parkes) on a countback.
In the Under 11s over nine holes, Harry Simpson (Parkes) was the winner with a great 63.
Alex Mclean (Parkes) was next with 67, followed by Charlie Denham-Jones (Parkes) 75, Sam Baker (Parkes) 82 and Liam Baker (Parkes) 92.
In the six hole competition, Ellie Mackin (Duntryleague) shot a great 47, with Charlise Acherson 70 (Wentworth) runner-up and Alyssa Acherson 73 (Wentworth) in third.
The junior classic was supported by the Jack Newton Junior Golf, Telescope Tyres and Batteries, Parkes Caravans, Central West Glass, Parkes Golf Shop, Cunninghams IGA and McDonalds.
The club hopes this junior classic will continue to grow and support the sport in the Central West.
