Mums, dads, and kids are all invited to take part in the four kilometre runorganised by the staff and P&C of School of the Air next Tuesday.
Organiser Wendy Wockner said the classic was a nation-wide event to raise much-neededfunds for breast cancer research.
“Our School of the Air families are coming in to Mount Isa for our annual home tutor week next week,” she said.
“We wrote to the Mother’s Day Classic organisation to request whether we might be able to hold our event on Tuesday afternoon.”
Ms Wockner said the classic was more than just a fun run for the students, staff, and parents of School of the Air.
“In the School of the Air we’ve had quite a few teachers and families who have gone through breast cancer and other kinds of cancer,” she said.
“Last year when we were talking about it we thought why don’t we try to run one at the school during the week.”
Ms Wockner said the classic was a good way to get families from the school together, along with members of the Mount Isa community.
“It’s not a race, it is purely to help raise money for a great cause,” she said.
“It’s all about fun and getting everyone out there to walk, run, or push a pram.”
School of the Air deputy principal Janeen Fricke said the school was happy to get behind the classic.
“There are a lot of people in our school community as a whole who have been impacted by cancer,” she said.
“She [Ms Wockner] thought that would be a great way to not only fundraise but also get all of our families together.”
Runners are encouraged to dress up, withprizes up for grabs on the day for the best dressed man, woman, girl, and boy.
“We do have prizes for best dressed, the crazier and pinker the better,” Ms Wockner said.
