Parkes Spacemen reserves came from the clouds to overcome Nyngan 18-10 on Jock Colley Field last Sunday.

Down 6-0 at oranges and 10-6 inside the final 10 minutes, Brent Timmins’ men lifted when required, with two late tries earning an important victory for the second consecutive week to earn a share of the premiership lead.

The teams exchanged pleasantries and try-scoring opportunities throughout the first half which ended with Nyngan ahead 6-0 after a try on 26 minutes.

A bustling Grant Coleman try levelled the scores, but the visitors regained the advantage after 45 minutes to lead 10-6.

As minutes ticked by and tension mounted, it was the Spacemen who responded the better with two late tries sealing the win.

With six minutes to play, replacement Aubrey Milson plunged over wide out and veteran Billy Joe Francis landed a booming conversion for Parkes to lead for the first time.

Two minutes later, the non-stop George Wright gapped the tiring Nyngan defence to position fullback Darcy James for a brilliant try to clinch victory against the odds.

The nature of the win will provide the Spacemen with plenty of resolve and confidence ahead of the difficult road trip to Macquarie this Sunday.

The Clarke trio (Jeremy, Kristian and Matt) were among Parkes’ best, supported by Wright, Francis and Jordan Clyburn.

PARKES 18 (D, James, A. Milson, G. Coleman tries; BJ. Francis 3 goals) defeated NYNGAN 10 (M. Sheather, K. Myers tries; Sheather goal).

Referee, Greg Phillips.
