The forum, hosted by Primary Industries and Regions SA, will address the key issues facing livestock producers including early feed options, grazing crops with the intent to harvest grain, pasture recovery, and business strategies to stay viable despite the ongoing challenging conditions.

The forum will also address critical livestock requirements and management practices to suit the current climate of a late breaking season, following the consecutive dry years impacting the Upper SE.

The latest weather forecasts for the region will also be available.

PIRSA Livestock Consultant Tiffany Bennett said the break of the season has not come as early as hoped for many in the Upper SE and what rain has fallen has beenvariable.

“Unfortunately lambing ewes and calving cows don’t wait, and with lambing and calving happening now, some farms are dealing with inadequate paddock feed and low on-farm feed resources,” she said.

“These workshops will help farmers move forward, by providing targeted and useful livestock management advice they can roll out now and when the break of season happens.”

The workshop is being conducted as part of the SA Government’s Upper SSE Drought Package, which aims to complement the range of existing federal and state government measures that underpin farm business and community preparedness and resilience.

Speakers are well respected in their fields and include livestock nutritionist Anthony Pearce from Hills Farm Supplies, agronomist Shane Oster from Alpha Group Consulting, and Ken Solly from Solly Business Services.

Rural Solutions SA is PIRSA’s key delivery agent for major programs and projects across SA, providing consultancy services to private and public sector organisations locally, nationally and internationally.
