Values lift at Emerald yarding

Numbers were cut in half this week with 780 head penned at Emerald on May 5. Overall quality of the yarding was quite good, particularly in the young cattle and this reflected in nearly all categories slightly lifting in value, with the exception of light heifers.

In the prime section, bullocks over 550kg reached 267c to average, no change, steers 500-550kg topped at 260c to average 255c, 8c better, heavy heifers made as much as 254c for the small number on offer to average 246c, 12c up, heavy cows over 520kg sold to 214c and averaged 211c, cows 400-520kg peaked at 210c for 200c average, while bulls over 600kg topped at 234c.

In the store section, heavy feeder steers 400-500kg sold to 259c for the few on offer and averaged 251, 320-400kg steers peaked at 319c for a 260c average, 220-320kg steers also made to 319c to average 300c, while light steers under 220kg topped at 305c.

Feeder heifers also few in number topped at 253c to average 230c, 220-300kg heifers sold to 267c and averaged 252c, while light heifers under 220kg made to 274c to average 262c. Only two small lots of cows and calves on offer, one pen of crossbred large frame cows in store condition with branded crossbred calves at foot sold for $1120 per unit.


The Neilson family, Shandon Park, Anakie had their 501kg Charbray steers sell to 255c and $1277, while Dean Eyles, Capella offered Brangus steers to make 256c for 622kg and $1594.

Don and Kay Gordon, Spring Creek, Jericho had 580 Red Brangus cows make 209c and $1213, while Bill and Fiona Eyles, Wilona, Capella watched their 561kg Brangus cows reach 211c and $1184.

Mal and Sue Burston and Family, Broadlea, Moranbah had their 612kg Brangus cows make 214c and $1312, while Jane Neilson, Shandon Park, Anakie sold 554kg Santa cross cows for 209c and $1159.

John Sullivan, Lana, Springsure had his Braford/Droughtmaster cross weaner heifers to 266c for 264kg and $703, while Will and Susan Appleton, Clermont had their 190kg Charbray steers make 305c and $570.
